“Harem” meaning forbidden… so, a forbidden area in the forbidden part of the Palace…

The idea is that everything in the world from the electrons round an atom to the world itself, rotates, so the dance is symbolic of creating unity with nature and the cosmos…

“Its worth 50! How about 18?”
“12?”

Heading towards the Hagia Sophia from the Blue Mosque
Fish Eye Hagia Sophia
So as to accurately face Mecca, the Mihrab could not be placed centrally. We interestingly noticed that the Hagia Sophia does not follow the normal layout of facing East so the sun rises behind the altar… This tradition must have come in later!?

Glad to hear you’ve been off adventuring down the ocean road! We’re having a lovely time. Now in Aswan, readying to catch our ferry to Sudan tomorrow. Egypt and the western desert has been spectacular. The best off-roading I have ever done by quite some margin. Pics to follow!
Happy Birthday Harry from Mum and Dad in Adelaide!! We are looking out over the calm blue sea and thinking of you both. xxoo
